Neither
does it provide a substitute for medical advice from a qualified physician. Calculations
on how much water to drink per body weight are based on the University of Missouri system (Body
weight x 0.5 (50%) = ounces of water to drink daily). Calculations for increased
water intake due to physical activity are based on recommendations of the American College of Sports
Medicine (Add 12 ounces of water to your daily intake for every 30 minutes that you plan to work
out). Calculations for drinking extra water in hot climates are based on recommendations of the
DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Add 24–32
ounces of water per hour of heat exposure).
